Adding some interesting new features to OpenSuperClone. The program will soon support serial commands both through the UI and script engine
with any UART adapter. I've added some scripts for Seagate F3 drives (some obviously quite dangerous).

Also in the process of building some companion hardware that combines relays, current monitoriong (and overcurrent protection), and an integrated
serial port. Hardware is proprietary but the software implementation is obviously open source so people will be able to build their own (if they want to
waste as much time on this as I have).

Yes, I'm working on a little kit consisting of the main power cycling board, an expansion card for M.2 drives (working on native NVMe support in OSC aswell),
and H10/H20 adapter for Optane drives.

USB or SATA - SATA current monitoring with decent software alone is something I know would be very useful as an addition to the versions of pc3000 without it. Would be even nicer if it was also usb.

If I understand correctly, Deepspar's USB Stabilizer can implement a "soft" reset by interrupting the USB data lines in USB storage devices. Perhaps you might consider adding a differential switch or a USB redriver?

It's certainly something to think about; I must admit I hadn't thought about just disrupting the data lines
and I don't even know how most USB devices react to that / whether that would actually make much of
a difference for most SATA attached storage.

I'd love some more info on that.

Not dealt with SAS drives much. Does OpenSuperClone support SAS drives? Looks like it was available in the Pro ver of HDDsuperClone.

My goal is to image drives from a server RAID

I have a Dell server available, but the drives are not Dell. I am guessing I won't be able to use that to image the drives. I believe servers have compatibility issues with drives not approved for different servers?

If I need to get a PCIe SAS card, Ive seen posts indicating I need a HBA not a RAID card?

Ignoring the fact I run lots of off brand drives in my dell server . I grabbed a SAS to SATA adapter a while back from AE, I've used it to image drives in DE so I see no reason why OPSC or HDDSC wouldnt work with it just to image a few drives.

Thanks, I have a PCIe SAS card (HBA) and the cables just came in, so I will give it shot.

The open source release of HDDSuperClone had all of the pro options unlocked so it should work. Actually I think it only needed the pro options for drives with sector sizes other than 512. I would expect that OpenSuperClone would work the same as long as nothing was removed.

The most direct way to access SAS drives is with the PCIe card, using the Direct SCSI mode, which is needed for odd size sectors. I know with that mode there are speed issues with the odd size sectors, but I can't remember if the slow speed issue affected the normal 512 sector drives or not. If it seems to read slow, know it may be because the OS doesn't deal very well with the odd size sectors, I think it is something to do with internal buffer size. Your mileage will vary, but it should read it and be able to deal with bad sectors, at least as good as possible with the Direct SCSI mode.
