Tools for hard drive diagnostics, repair, and data recovery

Hi Forum,
I've used Raid Reconstructor quite a few times to re-stripe 1 sector RAIDs. Right now, I have two 2x2tb RAIDs (Mac formatted) with 1 sector stripes. I'm having problems re-striping them to a WD My Book 4tb drive.
I've tried the first job 4 times, the second job twice, they are both stopping at around 55% everytime. I've tried various connection methods to my computer (USB, FireWire, and eSata). Crashed using all methods. The program usually gives an error message, like this:

- error: "range check error"
I'm running the latest version of RR (4.10) and I'm on Vista (32bit). I'm sure the suspect drives aren't the problem because I've already cloned them and there are no issues.
Does anyone know if this is a Vista 32 bit issue? I'm not sure I've re-striped to a 4tb drive before, but I thought so.
Or is this a Raid Reconstructor issue (Runtime doesn't think so, but their support will get back to me)? Is there another program that does what Raid Reconstructor can do (1 sector stripe)?
Any help appreciated,
Thanks!
Brianan

It appears that you're hitting a 1 TiB limit.
1 TiB / 2 TB = (2^40) / (2 x (10^12)) = 0.5498

Use UFS explorer Pro( it could 1 sector block-size too)

You might have to pay 500dollardatarecovery to help you with this one.

If there is nothing wrong with the original drives, why not just remount the volume on the Mac and copy the data over the WD drive?
Can you confirm that the drives in the WD unit are healthy?
What happens when you use WinHex? It is usually a lot faster than Raid Reconstructor.

Lol

No way!

Re-mount how? You mean put them back in the enclosure? Well... one client dropped off just the drives. The other changed RAID modes on the enclosure -- I believe this wiped the beginning of the drive with partition info/etc.
Therefore, I
believe I need to re-stripe both drives to a new one so all sectors are in proper order, then do a long scan of the 4tb drive, since it won't mount. I feel like I'm missing something here. Since no programs (except RR) do 1 sector striping I feel like I'm doing something wrong or missing something obvious. hah... Especially when you say "why not just remount the volume".

No, I was gonna swap that next for a g-raid and see what happens. Although the WD is brand new. I tried X-Ways Forensics but it doesn't allow 1 sector stripe either.

Woh! Thanks for that. I don't have "custom" but I'm running an older version. Getting 3.18 now, hopefully that's a new feature. Thanks again.

I find one that works and stick with it. Buying new 4.x upgrade for UFS now, looks like a good chance! Thanks again for your help.

Yep -- Got it, but it's pretty cool because they also have a VIM import plugin so that should save me about 2 DAYS!

One more time: THANK YOU DR-Kiev! The VIM import worked perfectly and now moving files directly to WD4tb. You rock!!!!!!!!!!!!
