I've read quite a few threads on this forum, but found I just needed to ask for some help.

Ok, the Controller burnered up (see pic), and I also noticed burned black on the foam above the CPU?
1. Does anyone have a replacement part for this / OR
2. What do I need to look for on Ebay to find a replacement?
- Which part numbers need to match for me to have the greatest chance of success? (this was the most confusing part)
3. If we spend a ton of money :-( can one of the WD recommended firms fix this?
skills: I can't solder etc, just need to scew on a new PCB.

Thanks in Advance!

If Processor chip has visible damage, it is not possible to retreave unique ROM info from it.
ROM will have to be rebuilt in this case, which is not a simple process.
There is another likely scenario with such a big burn on a PCB, its a Preamp chip shortage. If this is a case, if would be a very chellanging task for experienced data recovery tech.

Suggestions:
Send it to a pro in data recovery field and let them diagnose exact problem with a drive and then go from there.

It probably will cost you few hundred dollars, in best case scenario.

There is a well known and recommended forum member in Atlanta, GA "jono-ats". He should be able to help you.

Yes, Data Savers in your area should be able to take care of it.

What about swapping the bios/fw chip in this board?
Are both Q3 and Q2 need to be swapped? Or just one of them?
As example, on the picture above, Q3 is burned... and if Q3 is storing important parameters/modules...

Thank you is you have any tip about this board.

Neither of Q chips store important information, hope this answers your Question.

There is a pretty good chance that the preamp is bad with this PCB.

If parts under the diagonal running from R37 & C62 burn your finger to the touch, then the preamp is almost always shot. The burned area on your drive is pretty close. We'll be happy to help in any event - we are WD authorized.

Q3 appears to be the chopper transistor for the Vcore supply for the MCU. :-(

Q2 is part of the negative supply for the preamp.
