A major breaktrough in DR : HDD spare heads are now available , giving the possibility to change a damaged headstack. Like VCRs , where compatible heads are available, these "compatible" HDD headstacks are "the" solution.
Available for the major brands and drive families, they come in a convenient box including disposable alignment tool, alignment sheet for drives who have alignment problem, single use screwdriver and all the mechanical parts (bearing, washers, the top screw etc.) that are suggested to be changed also.
For multiple platters, in case one head is missing or needs to be disabled, it can be cut away with scissors, the preamp circuit will recognise the new headmap at power on. It is particularly useful when one surface need to be "cut off".
This will make DR much simpler.

I need a compatible platters too

It depends on brand and family and what's in the box, for example some don't have the alignment kit, other have a bag of platter lubricant to fix surface where the original heads may have crashed.
