hoping that someone can offer some advice.
another wd5000aaks. (dell 75YGA0)
I do computer service, and some DR, but not on these drives.
I received a client system with with this drive that looks to be a SA failure.
The drive does spin very strong, but isn't recognized in the BIOS.
Minimal head activity.
I tested the drive in another test machine as well with the same results.
Removed the controller board to inspect for any physical damage, but the board has no signs of shorting.

But to be safe, I did manage to find a known good and tested donor controller board from an identical drive, that stays in the acceptable replacement range.

My client cant afford a full recovery on this, and im not making a cent for my time on this.
She has years of pictures and documents that she never backed up.
Im looking for someone that can perform the ROYL ROM recovery, and bring the drive to a readable state.

Hoping someone can recommend someone that has Salvation Data or pc3000 that does only the ROM recovery.

I'm in the US but can send drive International if necessary.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or recommendations.

I just do not understand a few things...

from your description it was not clear where the original native ROM has disappeared.
Why would anybody spend any time if not paid adequately?

Why only ROM recovery when you are saying SA - you need to know what you want before asking on this one

Probably some attempt or something else lead to ROM corruption. But in any case intervention on SA is needed (at least check)...

I have helped one guy to recover his data, but in return he came to fix all of my plumbing issues in my house.

What if beside ROM problem (assuming it is real) there's need for something else ? Had similar case where "only one thing" was asked, despite all advice, then they came back "hey it still doesn't work..." but "I have done what you asked and what you paid for...".
Anyway, get the 1st step done.... ROM rebuilding as you want. Then decide.

Sometimes had home made cheese, sausages, boar meat, sweets, wine etc. for fixing something ... in crisis times markets change then you can judge the business trend according to belly size

If this isnt accomplished by a ROM rewrite, then it goes no further, the drive would be shelved until she could afford a full recovery.

Like i said..no invasive or destructive procedures were done. Drive was diagnosed to best of my current abilities, and no procedured were done due to equipment limitations.

Like i mentioned, if the ROM rewrite does not correct the issue, then the drive would be shelved until she could afford to do a full recovery.
I store all unused drives in clamshells....not the kind with pearls in them either.
I'm not one to ask for an inch and take a mile. If it works it works, if not then it waits.

If it comes that far, I am sure we can make some kind of deal.
