I tried to power it on with the TVS removed and it didnt power up at all :(

TBH expected this, surely it needs to be bridged otherwise no power will get to the PCB at all?

That looks like the 5V TVS diode. Your next DIY option is to replace the board and transplant the EEPROM chip, assuming it survived. The EEPROM is powered from an onboard switchmode regulator, so it's probably OK.

Guys!
Help!

I managed to source a new PCB, but now the drive simply clicks.... and then powers down (it seems to stop spinning)

Windows managed to find it as a 4GB drive, but would not initialise it, and it isnt detected properly in BIOS - though it can see something...

Whats the matter with it now?!
