I was thinking the same thing comrade =) Maybe in the sittuations when finding a donor is a huge pain in the neck this might be usefull.

Long time I have not had any time to read or post anything in forum. I have been interested in all such tools for a long time now. I have seen this type of tool before actually, and I had some questions/concerns/thoughts such as:

1. BEFORE removal of platters, HEADS must be safely removed. Preferably with a tool like Nikola's (which I love by the way).
* What about heads? often stuck to middle of platter, etc . I use helpdisc tool, but what does SERT include or use?

2. Which drives does SERT work on? Seems that it could work on many families due to design... Silenthunter - which drives have you used on?

3. I though about this method of extraction last year when I saw similar tool in Turkey used for platter swap of WD5000 drive. Requires TREMENDOUS force to do. Tool was very bulky ,heavy and much TORQUE needed. was very interesting.
This Turkish platter tool does same thing.

4. Price has come down almost half since last year. I understand fully the desire to keep untrained and inexperienced persons from giving tool a bad review. However, you could and should sell some WITHOUT on-site training. Just include a video/manual as Nikola does (which isn't needed anyway). AND---- sell to seasoned pros, well-established companies that have been in DR biz for years, etc. I am like Russ, in that I DO NOT have time. I have design and plans for WD alignments tool, my own platter tool, and some head tools also. I have only had time this year to visit with 1 manufacturing facility to discuss manufacturing of my tools, and only I spoke to them for 1/2 hour and only show them 1 design... I simply VERY VERY busy. I need vacation!!!! HELP!!!!!!! Maybe a trip to UK would be nice vacation? How about reseller/partner in a few other countries (Greece, Italy, Australia, USA) this way, we can choose our vacation destination?

5. Finally, I agree with most that seasoned pros should be able to just buy ANY tool of ANY complexity. I don't think any training is NEEDED, but you can and might include very high quality video instruction just to make sure (DVD). Sell a few to some pros and persons in business for years now.

I made a custom tooling working on the same principle, I've been working with it for some 1.5 years and it is pretty good.
But I do not know about this SERT, seems a bit weak if it fits in a suitcase, but who knows...
I think videos are harmful, as they get disclosed easily and make any guy think DR is for anybody...

Hi pcrecovery. I can see that you are a real data recovery professional and a business man. Some of the members of this forum want the manufacturers of successful data recovery equipment to disclose exactly how their products work / how to perform advanced data recovery techniques online. Here one can see the difference between a data recovery tech and a data recovery business person. They do not realise that their clients / potential clients (IT techs) read the same forum. These guys then end up trying the techniques at their PC shops. If they then send the drive to one of us (Advanced Data Recovery Companies) the HDD is in a mess and unrecoverable. The reason the SERT technical data and techniques are not disclosed in this forum is to protect the data recovery industry, ourselves.

I have purchased SERT and I attended the training. I now understand the reason for the training - with this tool it is important to get practical experience as it is much more advanced that doing a normal head swap. pcrecovery to answer your question - I used SERT with great results on Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 .9 .10 .11 .12 and ES2 HDD's. The other day I used SERT on a 1TB Hitachi HDD with seized spindle. (I only received one Hitachi with this problem) I recovered 100% of the data.

I was referring to ANY type of instruction at all. I don't care if it's a written manual with NDA agreement with my name embedded/watermarked throughout the whole document or HOW it is done.... I simply think that IF multi-million dollar oilfield industry tools with patents can come with such instruction on rebuilding and refurbishing, etc. Certainly any such tool can also.

Thank you for sharing your experiences with the said tool (BTW, with or without instructions I'm fine)

How do you extract the head stack for 7200.11 for example, with contact on platters or without contact?

The platters remain clamped to the spindle to keep alignment issues to a minimum. Same concept as what I'm working on.

Anyway you can make a video of the device actually being used? Sorry to say that video is useless and shows absolutely nothing.

@Cleanroom, yes I agree the video is useless from a techie POV... We have been restricted as to what we can show or say.

@dr.king Yes people have seen the tool (also have it but do not use the forums (much)) and will be posting about it very soon, we had a group of people from universities and law enforcement visit us earlier this week and have been promised a report on the tool over the weekend.

Looks like a more complex version of the HDRC spindle replacement device that they never seemed to have sold (but has been on their website for years). In their video, the platters have to be removed, but for this one, the platters remain in place.

I have SERT from approx 1 month and I solved cases which I never solved until now, for example I solved one week ago one 7200.11 ST31000333AS with motor blocked I also solved few days ago one 7200.10 ST3500830AS with the same problem.

SERT give me the guaranty that the platters are not misaligned.

Can you clone the drive 100% ?

For motor jam solution very expensive in my experience not more then maximum USD$1000/= if you manufacture in china it will be cost not more then $300 to 400 only..

If you make simple tool cost only usd$100 by your own method with simple techniques..if have any questions ask me.. i know them they got idea from salvation because they are reseller.. and now making there own tools like HDRC INDIA..
