Hi I have a samsung hd501lj

dead board with FW cr100-12
Put on donor board from cr100-13
The terminal gets a bd5 codes - indicating SA problem.
I do a hot swap and get to where I can talk to drive and test heads SA area etc.
My pc3k is a little out of date...
Head test says heads are all good.
SA structure test says SA modules are all good.
But cant read any sectors - gets read errors.
I suspect its got translator problems and it needs to be regenerated.
Is there a terminal command to do that?
The firmware is a little different so I could UL good firmware but my pc3k seems to not like doing that.
My pc3k gets an error reading the rom through the terminal. But I can see that its doing it.
I issue the read rom through terminal command, it times out saying drive is not responding, but if you go to the terminal screen
I can see a bunch of gibberish (rom codes) coming in.

What are the terminal commands to regenerate the translator?
What are the terminal commands to upload and download the rom - maybe I can do it manually.

Thanks

ps It is a legit pc3k not some china clone.... - I just dont feel like shelling out $1800 + $1800 for 'updates' ..... guess I will have too...

1) FW is on ROM + on platters
2) How can you say heads are all good ? Only in a "specific" mode the drive can be tested. (I assume there's something wrong with heads according to the symptoms)
3) There is no command for regenerating translator. It's not Seagate. Samsung work VERY DIFFERENTLY.
4) There are no commands for uploading and downloading ROM in terminal. To up/download the drive MUST enter another "specific" mode , data must be fed in a certain way AND then the drive erase, write and verify the ROM. In your specific case ROM is embedded in the MCU. BTW, another part of the FW must match or the drive will not work.

BTW, is it that sure that the drive has translator problems? Not even started normally because of FW incompatibility...
These drives have been supported by pc3k for ages, so I have some doubts about the origin of your tools anyway.

The patient board doesnt look fried. I swapped and remove some protective diodes on the +5 +12 - same....>>>>>>>>>

Update your PC3000. The latest release has ROM upload function.
