I had this 2TB Lacie Bigger Disk come in, it's (4) 500GB ide drives. From what I gather, this appears to be 2 drives in RAID 0 with a 256K stripe, which is then setup as a JBOD with the other 2 drives which have their own 256K stripe. When the drive came in, the power supply was dead. I always keep a few of these enclosures handy for situations like this, because even though they can be rebuilt, it's easier just to clone the drives and then throw them into another enclosure. I had the exact same model enclosure here already. So I started off by cloning the drives and then installed them into my enclosure. The drive starts up as normal, and the light on the front goes steady, but the drive never shows up at all. It should be noted that it's formatted HFS+. So based on that, I'm not for sure if something became screwed up in the original partition or not. The person said they worked on it quite a while, but I haven't been able to find out what exactly they may have done. I guess it's possible they made the situation worse.

Since the enclosure didn't work, I've started trying to rebuild the array in X-Ways (Winhex). I believe I have the drive order correct, my issue comes with combining the two arrays. I can combine the first two drives, and the partition shows up, but you just get the typical warning from Winhex that the size of the partition is not plausible, etc. because obviously it's only a portion of the total array. On the front end of the second set of drives there is a header area of 128-sectors.

Am I correct in assuming that while each striped set is at 256K, the JBOD parameters between the two sets is 64K since there was this 128 sector space at the beginning of the second set? I know this probably isn't correct, but it is the only thing that actually made sense to me. I don't have much experience in combining multiple arrays via JBOD, so this is somewhat new territory.

I had read another similar thread on here, and someone mentioned about having to trim the slack out of the end of the first set of drives and the beginning of the second set. I'm not for sure what was meant by that, and I was curious if anyone else has had similar experiences with these drives.

Can you tell the full p/n of the two enclosures ?

Use R-studio for virtual reconstruct. Find correct offset.
WinHex useless for JBOD.

Zebong, they were both 300801U.

DR - I had tried using R-Studio as well, but I try not to rely on that program much. I tried doing something similar there, where I built each set of drives into their own RAID 0, using a 256K stripe. The first drive of the second array is the only one with 128 sector offset.

Once the two arrays are configured, how would you recommend combining these two? My last version of R-Studio is over a year old, so I can only combine them as a Virtual Volume set or Virtual Striped set. Since the data is not striped across the two RAID sets that I'm aware of, should they be combined as a Virtual Volume set?

Yes, but there are offsets at start and at end of each raid.

I think I must have something wrong in the arrays or there is some corruption within them. When I think about this logically, if you have two RAID 0 arrays, arranged as a JBOD, then I should be able to get a clean recovery of all the data, or at least a majority of it, from the first array with the partition information. That data should look good, even without being conjoined to the second array, because with JBOD it's basically going to fill that array first before it starts storing data on the second array. However, even the primary array with the partition information has corrupt data. JPEG images are fragmented as if there are bad RAID parameters. I don't know what else I could possibly change though, because the best results come with a 256K stripe, and there's really nothing more you can adjust in a RAID 0 with two drives. I'll look at it some more today.

Ok, for some reason things are clicking this morning. I have been so frustrated with this job that I think it was starting to really screw me up. I just walked away from this thing over the weekend and just didn't think about it. This morning I come in and rebuild the one array just like I mentioned above, just to see if I could at least get one of the arrays to show up properly. Lo and behold after screwing with this thing for a week, I was able to get the one array up just like that. Perfect looking directory structure and everything. Now I'm just going to build the second array using the same parameters.

I just want to say thanks for the input here. Your time is greatly appreciated.
