Hi,

I have a problem with Seagate st336607lw.

My Adaptec 29160 says:

scsi controller status : 00h - no scsi controller error
target status : 02h check condition
sense key : 03h medium error
sense code : 31h
sense code qualifier : 00h

"lba 0" problem?
Linux says that READ CAPACITY command failed.
With hddscan I can see serial number, smart data, etc. HDDScan is also doing surface test
(is he really reading that hdd?) but there is not function to copy read data to another disk :/

Is there anything I can do on my own with that disk, eg. using linux tools (or windows)?

Buying SRT tools without any guarantee to successful recover doesn't look like an option to me.

Thanks,

It's like pretending to fix an engine with only a screwdriver starting from the noise... Need proper diagnose having the drive, then if you really want to do it yourself buying a tool, assume the risk. Or take it to a pro and leave all the problems to him/her...

These SCSI drives suffer translator issues. There are not many tools around that can fix it. I wonder if there is a way to fix that via the terminal?

Yes, this is a common issue on Cheetah drives. However, don't expect to solve this on your own. The information is proprietary and neither we nor anyone else, I'm confident, will share that information freely. However, it shouldn't be particularly expensive if you find a knowledgeable local professional and all your data is most likely recoverable.

thanks for your comments.

hdd has been sent to the local pro.

sad that this is a common issue and as I understand not too much complicated,
but all info about this is proprietary and not available freely (it is not just a matter of cost,
but also time, confidence, etc.).
