I need to update firmware for my Seagate ST3250310AS 250GB SATA HDD, but there is a problem:

this is a SCSI hard disk that it is already installed in a HDD's box of a dell 840 server, I downloaded a Seatool.exe which happens to be a software to detect and make diagnostic of seagate's hdd or any seller company, but when I run the test it delivers this result:

serial number:6RY9QMNC

model number: ST3250310AS

Firmware revision: F

p.s by the way, what means "F"?

I go to advanced test button, that leads me to another dialox box that has an option to update the firmware, but the file type that this updating requires are either .sea or .Lod, I downloaded a .zip but it didn;t work. need some help . thanks

Why do you "need" to update the firmware? If the drive is working properly then leave it alone. No good can come from futzing around with firmware updates. If you think the performance of the drive will magically increase, think again.

well, the hdd is brand new and it is working properly BUT, the issue is that this hdd is an uncertified product by Dell, and the only way to solve the problem is by updating the firmware and, actually by doing so I can add the hard disk to the RAid 1 in my server and have a complete virtual array of disks. that is why I need the firmware.

what files do you have when you extract the zip file?
From my Experience in most cases you can use a drive with different firmware and rebuild your raid if it was degraded. From where did you download the zip file? If you are conserned about Firmware, the Dell firmware will not be 100% identical with the Seagate firmware revision.

no, don't worry, you didn't sound harsh at all, it was me, I m the one who had to explain a little bit about the zip file's thing, what I really meant is that none of the files compressed within the zip file that I downloaded match with either .sea or .lod, they are .chs and .map.

yeah you are right, but Dell firmware isn't identical with this Model number either, I ve made oil digging in Dell and all I have found is ST3250310NS instead of ST3250310AS.

Those files are NOT for Seatools, those are ment for another program called Pc3000UDMA...and you can't use them!
Take picture of your hdd label and post it, so we can see what FW you have.
Your drive is NOT a Scsi, it's an Seagate Es.2 family drive and has Sata2 interface.

Here is a link to Seagate downloads:
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/s ... cId=207931

Best regards/ Bosse

the disk is already in the server, and that server is far away from where I m, but I can do a remote desktop and open the Dell open manager server application and do a print screen, take a look at the second disk, the ST3250310AS

I ve been there before Spock, and as I told you, there is no firmware update for ST3250310AS, only for ST3250310NS.

Best regard/Kirk
