Hey there guys, I have a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 (6L080P0) 80 GB Hard Drive and it was working perfectly fine before with windows 7 as the OS, but then I wanted to format the disk the other day and used the UltimateBootDisk CD, i have used it in the past and it gave me no problems. However, i tried formatting the drive and it wouldnt progress at all from 0%, i have done some research and have been trying for endless hours now but i can`t still seem to install windows on the HDD, even when i do try it says on the windows set-up that windows cannot access this drive. In conclusion, i also ran the seatools for DOS v1.09 and it states `This drive is security locked` and underneath that it says Max security set, so i guessing i have been locked out for some reason! I have tried and tried using various freeware packages in attempt to figure out the problem(e.g such as mhdd and atapwd) Is there anyone that could find me the master password for my hard drive, if so i would appreciate it very much. Similarly if anyone has any other suggestions please let me know asap :)

Thank You

I can`t boot into windows so how am i supposed to run the program? i guess its 10 dollars well spent but how can i run the program on the locked hard disk in order for the software to unlock it? Is it guaranteed to unlock the drive? and is there no other `freebie` way of unlocking the drive? :?:
Thanks, much appreciated.

If this seems a problem pcimage is very close to you and has the tools and know how to unlock this drvie for you if this is actually the problems on it. This should not cost you in the thousands to have this one done. Contact him and for a reasonable price I am sure you can have it unlocked. Send him PM. His name is Sean and he can work with you on this one. Good Luck

Just curious : why run seatools on a DM9/DM10 ?
Determine with MHDD if when identifying you see PWD on and effectively drive is locked with ata password, before doing everything else.
If the drive IDs itself as "MAXTOR CALYPSO" instead of Maxtor 6y080xx then it's definitely another problem.

Please read the FAQ from the hddunlock site..

http://www.hddunlock.com/support/faq/#7

Or like BlackST says, the drive may have defaulted to its factory alias which requires specialist tools & skills to overcome. But I was assuming that as you'd aleady ran MHDD etc on it, you'd have noticed this.

Yeah i have and it aint getting me anywhere lol I think i will pay the 10 dollars and try getting in installed, but then does that mean i have to connect the locked hdd with another hdd that works and operates windows? and BlackST, the drive says Maxtor 6L080P0 and i am 80 precent sure its the frigging hdd locked or reset to its default security settings. Is there no other way round it, i just want access to the drive to install windows 7 and i am not bothered about the current data on it!
thanks people

Other way is to use dedicated equipment.

Save the time and hassle and just buy a new drive if you don't need the old data.....

There's always 1st time, and you'll see strange things on newer drives...

(in any case I rarely see "locked by itself" Calypso , it is always consequence of something else, but everything can be)

I have another problem, i downloaded the mhdd from the file guru website and change the bios boot to floppy but it will not boot and then comes up with a message DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER, my intentions are ;

I will help you and for free to get rig of that password !!!!

First just to grab a copy of MHDD prior to the latest version.
Download MHDD 4.5 from here :
http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/
You will need it because it contain the ATA terminal that you will need for our little experience. Also use the floppy version, if you use the CD ISO you will end up with a "virtual ram drive" when you boot the MHDD and not the real a: assigned to the floppy.

Then open your notepad and past the following script :

Code:
; rm modul id 42
reset
waitnbsy
regs = $57 $44 $43 $00 $00 $a0 $8a
waitnbsy
regs = $00 $02 $00 $00 $0F $E0 $21
waitnbsy
checkdrq
sectorsto = 42.bin
; End.

save the file with a simple name, like "wdpwd" and remove the .txt extension to the file. You should end up with a filename witjout extension. Save that file to the "Scripts" folder of your MHDD 4.5

Now boot your MHDD copy and detect the locked drive. Mhdd will tell you the drive is locked. Don't worry and issue a .wdpwd or whatever you named the file.

You should end up with a file named 42.bin on the disk you used to boot mhdd.
If you have booted from cd you will have to copy the file out of it to a floppy, etc ...
Post the content here, if you can't figure out where the password is

Happy unlocking for free !
Without expensive tools.
That experience will also give you an idea about the true importance of vendor-specific ata commands.

do i have to type the full directory in mhdd when trying to write it to the hdd?
thanks

You have to READ :rtfm:

That script is for SOME drives from WESTERN DIGITAL, not for MAXTOR.

Use hddunlock.com service OR go to the nearest pro, it's a small priced £ / € job. Maybe they can ask you a signed agreement stating you are the owner of the disk and/or data will be irreversibly erased (I do it for example) but this is not a problem. It's just a precaution to keep away problems and thieves and for privacy.
