I have a LaCie 5big NAS that has lost its shares, all the data seems to be intact. I called LaCie and they walked me thru a soft reset, but still no shares. Does this sound like a rebuild of the array is needed? The web application indicates the raid is clean. So, I let the drive sit til I know what to do like send it out or try something harmless that could bring the shares back to active. Thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

If the data on the unit is valuable, get it assessed before you completely destroy the data. You can expect that the cost to recover your data will be a bit expensive, due to the nature of RAID recoveries. But, you should be able to find a lab within your area who is willing to assess it for a nominal fee or for free.

If you have lost the shares what makes you think the data is intact? A rebuild won't help you if the RAID 5 is already consistent. How much space does the device claim to be using? Can you see a Lost & Found folder?

lcoughey - Thank you, the data can be re-acquired, but I would like to have it back as it is organized. I will check around the area for someone who has the ability to access the data. The main thing I lost is the time I spent gathering and organizing the data. I can always just recompile

granaryloaf- The properties of the NAS (via Network Assist) indicate 78% data stored, which is consistent with what I know to be stored. But, maybe Lacie support mislead me on that assumption. I see no lost/found folder anywhere. thank you for the info.

mr_spokk (Bosse) - Thanks for the lead, might be an option.

Thanks again! ya'll are very helpful!
