i have a fujitsu hard drive that is only 1 year old and last night when i went to turn it on it started clicking. it sounds like its starting up and shutting down but I'm not sure. of course i have nothing backed up and need to get data off. is the hard drive dead at this point? or is there still a chance of getting data off? anyone have any tips? i've already tried the freezer trick and it didn't work
thanks

Freezer was a bad idea. Clicking in most cases meens bad head(s) Id suggest finding a DR shop that provides free diagnostics.
PS dont tell them u froze it.

Of course it didn't work, there is no good argument for it working and there never has been - especially as a fix for a physical hardware problem or a mechanical issue.

If the big end bearing went on your car's engine, and ended up as big chunks of metal swimming about the crank case maybe the 'freezer trick' would fix that? Sorry to sound like an a***hole but the logic behind this 'theory' has always gotten on my nerves.

I too would keep it quiet if you are sending it to a DR company.

If you boil an aquarium you get fish soup, if you cool down that fish soup you don't get the aquarium again...
