It's just for fun... or not ?

Jokes apart, individual firms may have an operative location and another address... example in Italy : if you have a "ditta invidiuale" (individual, simple company) usually your home and address on invoices etc. coincide :) .
OR , if you have a SRL (= LLC) it may be located at the accountant (who can also be administrator maybe) address or everywhere else while maintaining operative location elsewhere... So, beside some fun, "so what ?" :D

Oh well, of course if you see that on the same building of "el cheapo recovery" there's a funeral service or a sex shop it's not so good :D

Hehe guru, feel free to pop over, nearly all of my customers visit the address to drop off hard disks so they know exactly where there HDD is. It all looks rather more smart now as the google maps picture was taken when the property was derelict. You'll even get a cup of tea and a biscuit if you visit.

No, just happy to have you along if you would like to see how things work. It's easy to be dismissive, but you never know you might be pleasantly surprised at what can be achieved here.

Best wishes,
John

No offence specifically aimed at John, he has been open enough with his personal details, but I don't think a domestic location is the right way to run a professional business. When I started my business, getting a 'proper' premises was one of the first things I did. Customers don't like sending important drives to someones bedroom, let alone security issues that are present in a setting like this.

I think it is not always true. You can set a perfect lab and make it secure even on a flat or if you have separate space , at home. It's up to you to make it work and it's not important. Customers are crazy - some are just attracted by fancy websites or want to see sci-fi premises no matter if it is only smokescreen. I always say that in this field only results count, it's just like sports. Seen many times either drives declared 'unrecoverable' by the big boys that were only 'not profitable' and recoverable. Analogy : very 'posh' restaurants where you pay a lot, you see a beautiful location that don't fill your belly and everything has a complicated 'exotic' name... and you just wanted to eat decently. That's the market.

I think the main problem is that people in their house "Lab" can undercut the real companies who have invested heavily in premises, equipment, security, business rates and insurance.

If you take idea of cheaper restaurant :-

Pay less get decent BIG meal that if your lucky you do not die of salmonela or some parasite infection.

Pay BIG money get fancy food, empty stomach and pay large service charge.

Or Pay reasonable money for a reasonable meal which will not kill you or make you feel cheated :O) (For Doomer Yolki Palki :O) )

So like all things, maybe Middle road is best choice?

£99 recovery is silly
£££ is fair
£2000 recovery is crazy
