Hi, I am new at this forum. My HP dv5000 laptop cant detect the HDD. Its Segate 120GB SATA ST9120821AS. At first it was working with few problems. So I used Low Level Format tools of HDD Guru. And formatted completely using my desktop PC. Then created new partition. Its working fine with any desktop computer. But my HP DV5000 cant detect it. I used HDD diagnosis from BIOS several but no result. How can I fix it. Help me please.

Since you formatted it, that must mean that the data you had on it is not important.

I would recommend replacing the drive, if replacement drive still has the same issues you may have some connection issues inside your laptop.

YEa- try another hard drive- test one and see if it detecs
the dv series of hp/compaq are crap- constantly the wireless card cuts out- gfx problems / sata problems its endless.
If another hdd does not detect in bios send it back to HP/compaq

Your problem is when installing XP right?

If yes, it has to be with XP can't detect SATA disks. You should get sata drivers for it.
Is the disk detected in BIOS?

If you have a Windows XP / SATA detection issue, then the following thread may help.
