I have a 2.5" on a transfer external case via usb...i know that the drive is good, but when i try to see it, it asks me for format.. I think that a table of content of something like that is missing ( i know nothing about drives) if i put this in a laptop, it will try to book at them just blue screen. So it has a boot sector, but i still cant read it? What are some programs that i can use to recover these files?

1. Ditch the USB case and hook up directly.
2. What is the hd model?
3. Post its SMART data.
4. Scan it with something like MHDD to verify surface.
5. Prey.

Take it out of case and hook it up directly to your system. Then do a clone of this drive. Work from your clone. You can see from the clone if it is a problem in MBR or partition table. Then you can try some recovery prorgams on this one after it is cloned. Work on your clone
