the drive was functioning normal (no anormal noises, slows down or errors)

it was removed from the computer, and installed on another PC, i believe they connected the power in the wrong direcction, or connected while the PC was turned ON.

now the drive does not spin at all, it isn't getting detected by the bios too, it's a brick

i'm assuming that is a TVS diode that needs to be removed, so i can work the drive to get the data, but i don't know how to locate the TVS on the PCB.

can anybody help me?

Not all drives have TVS like NC has said on this one. Do not remove what edsel said you will be sorry. This is an older maxtor with a DSP chip on it. You can have this one done really simply if there is no other damage to it by a DR company. They should be able to help you out on this one and get your data back on it. If yuo do not have problem with the preamp on it I am sure this should not be too hard of a job if you take it to a DR company in Chilie to have this done for you. They have the knowledge and tools to fix this and get off your data.

a PCB swap will work on this drive?
the donor drive has to be the exact model?

C9DLA code needs to be match on the PCB side, and the 4 letter code on the TOP cover, this way: M,?,?,M
M = needs to match.

54 and 42 appear to be inductors (or low ohm resistors?). They both look like they have been pinholed. Check their resistances on the 200 ohms range of a multimeter.

They're OK then. There's 51 on the other rail, but it looks OK. Sorry, I don't know what else to suggest.
