Hi All,

This is my first post here, so i'm hoping someone can help me out.

I have a strange problem with the above drive I was hoping somebody could shed some light on. The drive will not spin up with its own PCB attached. I have tried the patient PCB on a donor drive and all is well, I have tried a donor PCB on the patient drive ….and all is well, although the PCB’s I have tried are the same (2061-701574-001 REV A), they come from different model drives with different firmware, and I was not expecting them to give me access to the patient drive, this was just to test the patient PCB and Motor and try to eliminate either one.

Here’s the rub…… I have an identical drive (WD1600BEVT) and the patient PCB will not spin this drive up either, but it will spin up a WD1600BJKT drive.

I appears that the PCB only has an issue with both the WD1600BEVT drives and not any other. Has anybody come across this before? Although a relative newbie to DR, I'm finding it a very steep learning curve...and a gentle nudge in the right direction would be appreciated... we can also take the conversation offline if you prefer..

Thanks in advance guy's..

Regards,

Steve..

Hi,

That is not unusual, as sometimes preamp are different and will make the drive unable to even spin.

When you use your donor PCB on patient, what happens?

Hi.

Thanks for the reply..... With the donor PCB in place the drive spins up ok,..... but as I said, my donor comes from a diffrent model WD (although is has the same part number and rev..)..

Ok.
If it spins ok and doesn't knock, probably needs a ROM replacement.
It can be an easy task if ROM is external. If it's internal it's a bit more complex.
