Hello,

I need your help to confirm what informations are important to swap HSA about the DCM of the donor.
I've read a lot of thing about WD.

One time this:
DCM Code (Yellow)
Matching the whole DCM code would be the best, but if you cannot the 5th and 6th characters should be ok; this is for head swaps and platter transplants.

One time this:
Model
Firmware
In the alphabetic DCM code the sixth (and if you can the fifth, seventh and eigth) characters must match

One time this:

Same Model Number
Same first three DCM Number (for example, patient drive’s DCM number is HHCTJHBB, so at least we need find the donor one with HHCxxxx DCM Number)

Thank you very much for your answer

Different WD model uses different DCM lenght, and of course different meaning of contents. :)
This makes things a little bit harder. :)

Ok and for example for a WD1600BEKT-66F3T2 with DCM HBCTJHBB ?
Is it compatible for head stack swap with this donor: WD1600BEKT-66F3T2 with DCM HHCTJHBB ?

Thank you in advance for your answer.

Those heads themselves are compatible, yes.

But that of course, is the "tip of the iceberg" :-)

Ok. It's the same informations for the WD 2.5'' and WD 3.5'' because sometime there is 8 or 9 characters.

Hi, can anyone tell me if the head stack from WD6400AAKS-22A7B0 DCM HHRNHT2CHB (black -Thailand)-wich is dead - is compatible with the head stack from WD6400AAKS-22A7B0 DCM DBNNHT2CA (blue - Malaysia) , or what parameters must match on the donor drive for the head stack to be compatible with my dead hd.
Thank you in advance.

Can someone tell me if :
WD400BB-00CJA1 DCM: HSEHNA2AA
and
WD400BB-75CAA0 DCM HSEHNA2AA

are head swap compatible?

I have the click of death and have already swapped the pcb and still the same.

Also if they are not a good cross match, does anyone have one that would be?

Thanks

You'd better try to find a donor with the same model. I wouldn't even try swapping heads from different models on these beasts. These would also need alignment. So... If you're not experienced in swapping heads on WD's, i'd say your chances are less than zero.

The WD400BB-75CAA0 has a screw through the base that anchors the head stack, so lid alignment isn't a factor here. I'm working on one now that has a circle of media damage.

Nonetheless, I'm surprised that a head stack from a WD600 of the same model isn't working at the moment as a substitute . . .

How much would you charge for a head swap, i am interested in paying for the repair.

Thanks
