Ok the model of this drive is ST31500341​AS 1,5tb.
Unfortunately it has been thrown down many times, and the last time it touched the ground problems started.
There is probably around 1tb of data on the disk (if it still there), and i want to recover as much as possible.

I'm a pro on any other subject, so i must note i did open up the disk (didn't care about clean environment).
I tried lots of recovery software, nothing worked and took forever, never finished. The disk is found as hardware when
computer starts, but takes like 10 times longer to boot. It is even shown in computer, with no information and start not
responding when i right clic.

I am looking for someone to take over my problem, i am willing to send two identical drives (one working), and i am open
to any kind of negotiation about payment, parts, anything.

Including two audio files of the noise the disk does.

Wow this one is good. But still have no clue why you would want to throw your drive down many time and then not care about a clean room and open it up anyway knowing what damage you can do on this one. After to mount it time and time again and run software recovery on it. I think the price you are looking at now is not going to be one that you want to pay out of your pocket even if you supply a drive to do this one with. My guess if you really want your data the starting price now is going to be around 2000 euro+ anyone correct me if I am wrong on this one. You had a better chance of less money if you had not opened this drive up in the first place. Maybe some pros here will send you a PM or you can try and contact a few of them and see if they are willing to like you said that this off your hands and do it for you.

Dude the falling down , was an accident every time... I got very clumsy friends. I kinda knew that dust would probably not be good when opening up a disk but i just had to see whats going on inside, i thought simply something might have moved from all the falling.

I don't think i have messed it up more, its attitude while powered on hasn't changed since it stopped working 5 months ago.
From my knowledge i think it also needs to be powered up once in a while, so the platters won't be demagnetized.

2000 is a bit more than what i thought.
I would rather try to learn for my self and try transferring the platters to the healthy disk.
Even Seagate repair center in Amsterdam asked for less lol.

Who are the pros around here? (

Moved... surely you would try and learn a little more about hard drives before thinking of opening them. the only thing that moved was the head to the platters.

what i said was never meant to be "unhelpful"! the point is if you not careful just looking can cause more damage than good, especially if you have no idea what you looking for. You should maybe have asked before you tried to run all the data recovery software on the drive if you knew that it was dropped, cause just by running it you possibly have deestroyed all chances of recovery. if the platters were damaged by the drop, which is more than likely, by you running the software the damaged head could have possibly destroyed the the entire platter. if it was only on one head. nobody will simply take over your problem you would need specialized equipment which all these guys have paid good money for. poehere pricing is a good baseline price for a recovery by a pro.

I see, i don't remember what software i used, but it was running for like 3 days and then i stopped it, some progs did nothing.

It even shows up in win disk management, from the sound of it i think it is only one of the heads.
If 2000eu is like a normal price then.. well my data isn't worth that much.
Does the pricing go up with the size of the data?

No need to fight... Simple question : HOW MUCH ARE YOU WILLING TO SPEND, assuming maybe in your case 100percent of data is not possible - to be honest. Give a PRECISE FIGURE , not 'as less as possible'. THEN maybe a member of this forum will send you a Pm.

If I were a betting man, I'd put my money on Seagate quoting a lot more once they got the drive there and saw what was done. I doubt anyone here, knowing what you did, is willing to compete with the Seagate price. So, send it to them and let us know how you make out with it.

Ok, seems that HD gurus rely on desperate people, and i am not even willing to pay 800eu, thats why i am trying my luck here.

I am looking to save 2-4GB, depending on the jpg files on the disk.

The heads are messed on your drive and no commands will help you.
To adjust the heads you need very expensive equipment on these new high capacity drives or allot of experience and custom equipment
800EU is generous offer from seagate.

The hard drive should not be spun up while the lid is open. Dust is not so much of a problem as opposed to organic matter that sticks to the platters and messes up the heads.

Consider storing your files on the cloud; picasa, dropbox, etc. Cant drop your HDD there.

€800 is an excellent price, unbelievable almost for i365.

Unless of course you were "ecnomical with the truth" then they will see the state of the drive and the price suddenly jumps to €2000+

Ok, since this story is already funny to you ppl, i haven't mentioned an (as it seems) important thing, i sneezed on the platters, and then had to carefully clear all the little fluid drops with ear cleaners. I have removed heads from other HDs before, and since i won't be wasting any money i'l try surgeries on them. Just waiting for my identical disk to arrive
