Hello All,

First of all, a Merry Christmas to you all guys !!!

Well, i am a noob here and need expert advice of you guys. I have a Seagate ST340016A HDD which runs fine most of the time. However, sometimes it misbehaves and hangs on power up and doesnt work. if i repeatedly power on and power off the HDD, it sometimes works fine again.

I googled for this symptoms and found that it could be a firmware malfunction issue which can be rectified if the firmware is either repaired or updated.

Now, i got the firmware from the forum as given in the below link

http://files.hddguru.com/download/PC-30 ... 0ATA%20IV/

When i download that, i can see many files in it and no exe files.

How can i update the HDD? Any ideas? What tools are required?

Thanks
Bob

There were some firmware updates for those drive (from HP, Compaq, IBM....) which do not require specialized utilities for upgrading. Anyway I do not think upgrade will make things better. Better try to purchase new ATA drive while still on sale.
Merry Christmas
