Hi, my message is hard disk related, although it might not be so close.

Well, my wonder is, I love large volume external hard disk. But most external hard disk enclosure/box seems to have a limit of the hard disk size to support. Currently, I can see many of such enclosures do not support more than 1.5TB or 2TB. This also applies NAS.

However, on the other hand, there are many PC main boards technically support large volume hard disks well.

So why the production of external hard disk enclosure does not apply the main board technology into them?

Yes there are, 3TB HDD's are available...

To answer the OP, it's probably because the USB controllers in these enclosures haven't been updated to handle the larger drives. I'm sure there are other reasons also.

Seagate supplies a 3TB Barracuda XT ST33000651AS in a GoFlex enclosure.

It may be worth finding out which bridge chip the enclosure is using.
