i have an ST3250820AS
was functioning without problems
after a power faliure it died, no spin up, no noises, no signals of power, a brick

it can't see any burned or damaged component

i tested the both TVS with a multimeter reading resistance in 200 ohm, in forward and reverse direction
obtaining a reading of "1" in all tests

does that "mean" that the TVS are in good or bad condition?
what other tests are recommended?
should i remove the TVS?

please comment

Judging by the sticker on the PCB, have you already sent this drive for recovery? What is the history of this drive?

i already search, and read sveral posts, but the readings im getting on the TVS, dont fit on what i've read.
for this reason im recurring this forum, to get some advice from the most experienced people

If you want some help I think first of all tell everyone the whole story, because without the correct picture it's not easy to give any advices.

I believe Kepler in Chile are a reputable DR company, so I'd be surprised if they were posting something like this....and if it was an employee, I doubt their management would be too happy. Just my thoughts....

i removed both tvs

the disk still show no spin up

but now the drive get a little warm in the sides (the disk area), and the bios get some time (as it was trying to detect the drive) but finally dont detect nothing

Seems like people have a mind of there own now here and or chose to not read the posts. They have been asked more than once what was the problem and to tell us. No they can not do this one. They feel that all the issues go to the TVS and removing them will solve all their problems. Well there was a reason he took it into the DR company in the first place. Now he is chosing not to answer as to the problem of his HDD. After he remvoed the TVS even though this clearly is not the problem of his HDD. I feel that people here are trolling now for answers and if they do not receive what they want to hear they post more crap here and think that they will get the answer they want to hear. Sorry does not work this way

If you would like to post your original problem and what the DR company told you was your problem then and maybe then we can help you. If you chose to go on and ignore the request and continue to mess with the PCB then you are on your own and how do you think anyone here will help you out on this one.

my boss did not accept the keplers price

he ask me to try to do something by myself

and, as told before, the disk was working fine, without any error or abnormal noises
then it comes a power failure, general, and the drive stops working

i know that there are a lot more things than TVS, but i try to start checking the problems that, after reading some, could be the more suspicious things

and i know than in this respectable forum, are lot of people with lot of experience

i'm only trying to get some direcction, or a little explanation of what could be the problem, and if it is simple or not

You found your anawer it is not TVS. It is internal to your HDD. You do not have much chance now to fix it and this needs clean room work on it. Seems you have gone as far as you can on this one right now. Your problem is elsewhere now

I think your boss does not value the data so much...

I expect the price from Kepler would be much less than anywhere else now that you have attempted recovery youself and very likely made the situation worse.

Maybe Kepler will still honour original price even after your attempts. If so, I would recomend accepting it.

A reading of "1" is indicating "overrange". It is the same reading you see when you hold the probes apart, ie an open circuit. A short circuit is when you touch the probe tips together.
