Does anyone have a working PCB for this HDD or know where I can get one?

MDL: WD3200JB-0KFA0
DATE: 13 DEC 2006
DCM: HHBHCAJCHN

Need it to recover data of the drive, can return if you cannot part with it permanently.

You will need to transfer the flash memory chip at location U12 from patient to donor. A straight board swap won't work.

Try here:
http://www.hdd-parts.com/firmware-transfer.html

The supplier includes a firmware transfer for US$20.

Thank you for the info fzabkar,

I was under the impression that if I get a board from the approximate same date with same specs, that has not been flashed, it should work. My board is fine, except for the contacts from the PCB to the drive.

I get connection with the drive and see the data if I plug the drive in about 50-100 times on external USB, this is naturally not ideal when trying to recover data :), but i have recovered about 135GB of the 260GB this way, but now out of luck. The drive boots up for about 30 sec. then freezes up again. I initially tried nondestructive recovery with a few different professional programs, that did not work at all, tried to recover through Linux, did not work, then Win 7 and with a little patience, voila, half recovered, I guess i will stop cursing Mr. Gates :)

I will contact the site you suggested and see if they can assist me with this. If you think of anything else i can do then I would appreciate the input.

The problem sounds more like bad media or a bad head than a PCB fault.

If you don't move U12 to your donor board, the drive will probably click and fail to be detected at all.

You could be correct, question is, will it hurt to try, I should be able to go back to the old board without any harm them. What do you think?

It should be OK, as long as you don't damage the flash chip in the process. Then you will need professional recovery services.

Some suppliers, eg http://www.hdd-parts.com/firmware-transfer.html, will include a firmware transfer service for US$10 - $20.
