Did you get anywhere with this? We have the exact same drive, some errors, heads are good, media looks good under the microscope. Not sure whats happening with the drive so would love some advice.

To update, underside of platter had ringing, heads had faint signs of platter coating attached to them via electrostatic attraction.
So media damage, typical of this drive when used in Apple laptops.

Hello ...
i have the Same Problem with ST9120822AS
Firmware : 3.CAE
from MacBook.

i tried the terminal methode with Nokia Cable: CA-42
i found something strange:
1. when i tried to connecct with terminal using "Bits per Seconds "= 38400
then i can not access the Harddisk, nothing coming when i click "Ctrl +Z"
it worked with me just when i made the "bits per Seconds" =9600

2. when i uses 9600 and press "Crtl +Z" then i got "F >" insted of "F 3>"

3. when i am changing anything like "/2" or "Z" then i do not get any answer,.. not like which is mentioned for Seagate fix Bsy methode . it means if the command working then i do not get an answer for what is this command, like "spind up complete" or any thing else.

4. some commands working with answer

5. i have list of Seagate commands, but many of them when i tried them with this Hard Disk , then i got that it is "invalid", i thought Seagate commands working in all Seagate harddisk.. i trieded other kind of Seagate harddisks and these commands workig.

6. when i type the command "U" then i got the same which microsoftengineer got for his harddisk:
Buzz HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80
HM REG701 80 appears continuously......
Drive is BSY status.

i am doing something wrong?
is there special methode for this harddisk different than for other seagtes?
i hope an expert can help me, thanks..

Yes, you're trying to cure kidney failure with aspirin.

As said in previous posts, this is likely caused by damaged heads and/or bad media.

i just interessting why most of commands did not work, and when i am in terminal in many command i can get an answer about this command,
i get in some commands and answer or if the commmand is not valid, what i could not understand why these command not valid although they worked for other harddisk of seagate...
the other things why after intering terminal it is "F >" instead of "F 3>"
and when i change to /2 or any other level i do not see the changing..

why is with this harddisk just possible with 9600

i do not care much about repairing i just want to learn it with using borken hard disk.
i will be happy if some one could explain it for me, i could not find an answer in internet..
another things.. is there also list of commands for samsung hard disk... i know that seagate bought samsung harddisks now.

You are wasting your time with this one, 99% certainly will be bad heads with damaged media

Google "Seagate 3.CAE" and you'll get the picture!
