when i have a donor pcb and i do a pcb swap, can it do MORE damage to the drive?

Maybe no, and also 95 out of 100 simple pcb swap won't work. Ok ?

When i started i really wanted my data back, i already given up hope, but i now want to make my HDD work. I wandered how many people have thrown their harddrives away with loss of data, when all they need was to cut a TVS diode.
Maybe in my case it is something simple, just want to know what's wrong with the drive, and want to learn some info about how drives work and how they break. You understand???
I want to learn from mistakes, and get smarter about HDD's.

So, no, don't expect to learn anything. I'm not a DR guy, but I try to help. However, my days are numbered. It is possible to be too helpful. ;-)

If you send the drive even without the killed PCB you'll have your data (unless the drive has been phisically badly damaged). If you have had legit expensive diagnostic equipment *MAYBE* you could do something by yourself and get help from here.
I can't borrow you the know how , the information and the equipment.
You had some help, it was not the help you want (you want your data, for free and now) or the help you had it didn't work. What else do you want ?
You asked if it could work if you get another PCB : the answer is always : TRY, but you have 5% prossibility out of 100 to work. It's a least expensive try. If doesn't work, live with it and refer to the nearest pro. IT IS NOT AN EXPENSIVE CASE.

Don't think so. You just need to refer to the nearest professional who can help. Just like when you need a doctor or when you was on your vacation, where other people had your money and in return you had services, you have been fed etc.
A simple backup or a copy can avoid all this kind of things. I feel sorry about what happened, assuming you told the truth. I see no other option. Unfortunately I am in Italy (quite far) and I don't have in my network of colleagues anyone I know and I can recommend in Holland. If you don't mind crossing the borders there's Marc (dobrevjetser) in Belgium (the nearest) or other.

The rest doesn't deserve any comment and honestly there's no need for pointless discussions about economy and theories and the old good times and how greedy people are and what should it be. This place is "as is" , love it or leave it.

Just go ahead and swap the PCB's . If the firmware of the donor is the same as that of the patient you'll get your pictures back, if not the HDD LED of your computer will start blinking. Tell us how many long and how many short blinks you see.

95 out of 100 means 5% that the PCB will work straight away. I told him that a simple swap doesn't cost the world so if don't want to hear no other option, he can go for it but do not complain if doesn't work and it was a waste of money. Understood or need a drawing ?

I was told that a swap of pcb and a swap of ROM chip could work. So i will try that, and tommorow i will bridge the fuse on my dead PCB. You will hear from me, but now i still don't understand how the DR guys can make a HDD work.
Probably a secret, i don't know. Just wanted to learn something.
Do they use alternative PCB's (donors) or do they swap platters?? That's the question, i know that i can't swap platters, it's too complicated and i don't have the tools or a clean room. I only wanted to know how DR would solve or try to solve this kind of problems,

If you are lucky, your drive will have the firmware version printed on the label (e.g: FW CR100-12 or similar), then you will need to find another drive with the same f/w and it should work, assuming no further damage.

If however there's no FW version on the label (there is mostly not) then we would use an alternative method to find out the true f/w version.There is no point in elaborating on this, as specialist expensive equipment is required to do this, which you don't have.

Hope this explains the situation for you?

Best of luck but as BlackST says, a pro recovery at this stage should be pretty cheap, assuming no further tampering.

Nope, the FW version would be on the main drive label (i.e. on the lid) not on the PCB, never see the fw version printed on the PCB on Samsung.

I think before talking about activity of DR people, specially with those manners, you should really understand a little better wha's DR and what do we live from.

Have you imagined why Microsoft doesn't provide their source code for free to anyone who want to customize Windows?
For example, have you heard about patents? Do you know the concept behind it?
Apply all the answers to DR and probably you'll start understanding why you're getting the answers you have.
You've had a lot of help, but as you saw, it's not so simple as it looks like.

Besides that, I think you're in the wrong forum, as Franc says, this used to helpful in the old days, so probably there are much more helpful foruns spread around the internet, so just ask him where they are.
And by the way, I think the logic should be in the reverse way, if this is not helpful, why bring new members in? Just find another place where everyone is able to help and do everything for free.

Other forums may be more friendly but don't help. Blinds leading blinds, or full of 'try this' , or kids, or people without equipment in search of impossible solutions, or copy/paste from other sources. Pros have little time to loose, and the original purpose of this forum was for pros to have other opinion on real case,research, exchange. Changed.

The best way to dissuade people from attempting an impossible DIY is to tell them how it is done. In fact, showing them the tool and explaining in detail the issue of head stack alignment will prevent most people, including me, from removing the cover.

As for withholding information about a fuse, well that's just plain mercenary.
