I have a Western Digital WDA20EARS 2Tb that holds most of my movies and TV shows that is connected through eSATA. This morning the computer could no longer find it. I decided to connect it directly via SATA port 3 and got a post error for that port. Put the drive back as an external drive and connected it via USB 2.0. While it’s not listed with my other disk drives I can see it through disk management but it reads “Not Initialized”.

This drive was initially setup with a GPT partition. When I try to initialize it now I get “Incorrect Function”. I then try MBR and get the same error. I start looking for data recovery software but cannot find anything that can handle the GPT partition.

Can anyone point me in a direction to try next? I’m running Windows 7 x64. If you need more information please ask.

Thank you!

it is encrypted through the usb controller. You will not get the data through a direct sata connection. It is that lovely program called smartware on those WD external devices.
