If the drive is beeping I would not recommand to try and do a busy fix on this one. That is not the problem on it. Reason for beeping is motor or heads are bad on this one. Could also be damage to the platters on it. There is more worng with this drive than the busy fix on this one. You need to take it in for a diagnosis and find out what is your exact problem on it. It is hard to say this way without examining this drive.

Hi, thanks for the opinions, we have a few experience about data recovery, the HDD don't spin.

What does sticktion mean? And what is the solution?

Thanks a lot.

Sticktion is when the heads are in contact with the platters. The solution is take it to someone who knows what's he's doing.

The solution amounts to about $500 - $1000 for 5 minutes' work in a professional DR lab, or this simple DIY fix:

Let your customer decide. The risks and warnings are explained in my previous post.

I know the risks and warnings, that a recovery have. For these reason we never open the disks, only work in electronical failures, pcb, etc... When disk need to be open we send to a profesional lab. My question is: to solve the sticktion is necesary open the disc or is possible solve with pcb replace, firmware etc...

dcrecovery: In your case, a large hammer will suffice.

Percussive Maintenance doesn't require that the drive be opened, but of course that's up to your customer. In fact he may well choose this option in the light of your current response.

As for other non-invasive options, you could try applying 240VAC mains voltage to the voice coil terminals. That's guaranteed to get the head stack moving. Better still, connect a car battery to it, with the correct polarity. You should hear the head stack crash onto the loading ramp. :D

So called DR companies who only do external work really get under my skin. If you don't fully understand the internal workings of a hard drive then you shouldnt be in the business.
