I was just curious if anyone had any details or documentation regarding the legalities in storing SA mods. Firmwares, etc. in regards to data recovery. Has anyone contacted Western Digital, Seagate, etc. and gotten any official word on this?

I don't see why can't it be stored. We don't change the FW, just use it, so no problem of copyright I think.

I don't see any problem even if you theoretically "change" the FW / tweak it . If you do it commercially it is another thing.
Moreover, there is an invariable part of the FW and another thatis drive dependent. I don't see the problem, anyway.

I see no problems in this one. FW has been saved and shared for years in drive repair and recovery work.
