Hi All !

Some days ago my secondary hard disk suddenly disappear from windows and after a reboot also the bios wasn't able to find it !

After many research i found many suggestion but i dont think i have found the right solution for me.....

When powering the hard disk, it starts spinning, then after about 3-4 seconds it stop spinning and stop working at all.

The hard disk is an Hitachi HCS5C1010CLA382 , 1Tb that was inside a Lacie External Usb box.

I read there that in some case cutting off a resistence (not sure about that... ) the drive will start working,,,but my drive receive power because it start spinning so i think it isn't the right solution for me. On the PCB there are not burned parts and no smell of burnings.

Should it be something releted to the NVRAM or the Firmware ? If i buy exaclty the same PCB it wont help , right ?

Can someone told me waht is the problem with this drive ?

And again...if i become crazy, is possible to extract the platter and put them inside another similar hard disk and backup my data ? I saw many videos on youtube and i've tried the procedure with a broken hard disk...it dont seems to difficult except for the attention for particular in the ambient....

Was drop before?
Did you test it outside of enclosuer?
With those symptoms another PCB will not help.

I wasnt drop....i use it outside its box and i'm testing it directly connected do sata connector on the motherboard........

As i think the pcb isn't the problem... so... what could it be ?

If it is firmware or need to deal with NVRAM rebuild, assuming you know how Hitachi work, you need 10'000 EUR worth of equipment to access firmware .

Try on a good one of similar capacity and you'll discover it's not simple without expensive tools and a lot of experience. Letting alone multi-platter disks. On youtube you NEVER see the result of the operation.



Class 100 or less cleanroom equipment or even a laminar flow bench : surf the internet for pricing.

In a nutshell : if you really value your data , DIY is forbidden in this case. Otherwise go attempting but do not expect results or any kind of help - at least you'll see how your disk is made.
