Since your drive is not even trying to spin the motor, I think the problem may be simply caused by the heads being parked over the platters instead of on the ramp. It may be simple after all.

Is there a way for me to check this without opening up the drive, or should I pull off the cover?

Under the head assembly on the back of the drive are four white stickers. If I pull them off can I possibly use the holes to move or check the heads?

Again thanks!

All right, I have what I think is good news then. I just opened up the drive for a few seconds to check this and sure enough the heads are parked right over the platter.

So, what is the safest way to properly park the heads back in the ramps?

Again thanks!

Well call it a day :D

I opened the drive back up and plugged it into my usb card. Spun the platters with my #5 torx while I lightly pushed the heads back towards the dock. Low and behold the drive started to spin and instantly was mounted under windows. I already got all the one of a kind photos off and now I am just picking up gravy.

My hands are still shaking but I have my photos back!!!

Hi,

I've got MK6034GSX with some failure, after power on, it spins but after a while it slows and so on, my first idea was bearing damage, but I also think it could be heads.

In this respect I need to find donor, and I found MK6034GAX. Tell me please if the only difference between 34GSX and 34GAX is type of interface (SATA and PATA)? I think yes, but I'm not sure and want to hear opinion from others.
For example:
If I had damaged PCB in 34GSX, may I use 34GAX and resolder the main chip with ROM?

If I need to replace platter and heads into another case with a good bearing, what kind of donor shall I look for?
I mean, may I use case from another family (let's say 52GSX) assuring it has got just the same rotational speed 5400rpm ? or some other requirement need to match?

Thanks for answers.
