Hello,

I have a 150 GB disk drive whose initial filesystem was NTFS but Windows and Linux are recognising it as a 10MB FAT-partition. The filesystem ist probably destroyed, at least that is what I assume.
After googling I used this software and during the initial scan it showed me the name of the last file it found and there were actually files and directories I know and remember so the files are probably not all lost but after finishing the scan it said that it didn't found anything (although during the scan it showed over 100000 files).
The file system is not recognised though and Windows and this program show that this hdd has no partitions.
So what would be the best course of action now?

Hi,

Firstly don't write or install anything on this drive as you will cause more issues & more likely start over writing areas on the hard drive that your data is on.

Secondly create an image of the hard drive & work on that. That way if it goes wrong you won't have ruined your chances.

R-studio is a great piece of software. Try their demo at www.r-studio.com
Create an image then select it & try open files & see if it lists your files? If not then run a scan on the image file & see what files it shows it can recover.

Easeus partition table doctor can rebuild the fixboot, mbr & rebuild the partition table..

Good luck

Okay, topic is solved!

Used testdisk and it immediately recognised all the partitions (that might have been on there a long time ago) and testdisk was able to reconstruct the partition table of the important partition and restore all the data!

Was kind of silly of me not to have thought of that.
