Hi,

I'm a 100% total newbie, have no knowledge of HDDs.

How things are:

- The drive does not spin up at all, nor does it make any ticks or sounds
- If i touch the PCB with my hands, it's hot, probably normal hot (meaning it's not cold, but it's not hot as in i can't touch it)
- The bios freezes when trying to detect it
- I've tried looking at the PCB with my limited knowledge, and I can't find any fried components

Specs:
MODEL: WD2500JB-00REA0
DATE: 17 APR 2006
DCM: DSBANTJAA

On the sticker:
2061-701292-C00 AA
XW 3E03 9SHN 7 0007420 6427

On the PCB, printed on it:
2060-701292-001 REV A

Any suggestions on how to get it working again are very welcome.
If anyone has a PCB, please do tell if that's the case here so i can buy it from you.
My location is Norway if that matters.

Thank you

Kjartan

Probably motor driver chip is dead. But not 100% , can be more serious problems (not with PCB).
Don't turn on this drive again (not to kill preamplifier inside HMA) . :!:

About new PCB , you need not only work one , also you need ROM-chips trasfer.
If data extremely important , use DR service in your city (becouse one your mistake could reduce the chances :rip: or greatly increase the price), if not - play much as you like. It is your choice.

Wish you luck ;)

You can try a PCB from any WD2500JB0-xxREA0 and see what happens. If it spins up OK with no clicking then you can go ahead and swap the 8-pin U12 ROM chip from the original PCB and it should work.

If it clicks then you have further issues and should consult a pro. I can point you in the direction of a good pro in Oslo if necessary.

IF the Data is important send it to a professional.

Have you checked the PCB with a multimeter?

I think your jumping ahead a bit further then you need to at this point. Check the resistors and TVS diodes. Scan a HIGH QUALITY image of the pcb and upload it here.

be sure to show us the little insulator between the circuit board also. Sometimes its discolored from heat damage or melted components.

A Rom swap requires expensive tools and knowledge. There is plenty of people available here to provide this service
for you but that alone may not solve your problem.
