This drive came out of a 1tb external iomega drive. They couldn't access it over the network so I removed the drive from the enclosure and hooked it up directly to their computer via sata.

My computer didn't show anything but computer management showed the drive and it's partitions.

I ran r-studio and right up front it said it doesn't recognize any file types on the drive.

I am now running gdb ntfs, should I be running gdb for fat32 being an external drive? did iomega encrypt their external drives 2-3 years ago like the new WD drives and is that why r-studio didn't find any recognizable files?

right now I'm on a 14 hour recovery with gdb for ntfs so any direction would be much appreciated.

Dave

If it is a NAS drive, chances are the format is Linux, like ext3. Ergo, you are using the wrong SW tools.

jono-ats, I think your on to something. Under computer management, it is showing up as unknown partition and it does hook up through a cat-5 cable, Network-attached storage.

I looked at my 2tb external hooked up via usb3.0 and it was NTFS, that why I ran gdb for ntfs. It's a HD storing PC files.

So, what software do you recommend for my project at hand? I see plenty online, but linux recoveries are foreign territory for me. Would you recommend me picking up a mac machine being that all mac apps I run are done through ubuntu or some other cd/dvd bookable software?

Thanks for your time, it is greatly appreciated.
