Hi everyone, first time post. I am attempting to swap boards on my Western Digital WD5000YS but am having issues. When my HDD first crashed, I smelled the typical burning smell like the PCB was fried. So I went online to order a new PCB. I made sure to match up every little piece of information on the boards as possible just to make sure. Here is the info that matches up:

Main Controller IC: 88i6545-TFJ1
Board Number: 2060-701383-001 REV A
Firmware: 01MPB0
DCM: HBACAJAA

After I swapped the PCB, my HDD spun up just like it used to in its docking station, however, the drivers for it would not install. Just to make sure it wasn't an issue with my dock, I put it in a slot in my desktop. My BiOS showed that it had issues. I feel like I got somewhere by getting the drive to spin up, but now I'm at a loss as to what to do. Does anyone have any suggestions? The picture is of my fried PCB.

There is unique information in each PCB for each drive. So, a new board would need to have the unique information transferred from the old board. How? Search ROM swap in this forum. So much info related to this issue. If you don't have the skills or tools to address the issue, do not try it because a mistake can be costly.

Thanks einstein9, I'm hoping to do the swap later today, I'll let you know how it goes. The camera is a Canon 50D with a 50mm macro lens.

I see you have already found a replacement board.

Anyway, here is one supplier who includes a "firmware transfer" service (U12 ROM swap) for US$20:
http://www.hdd-parts.com/20091019.html

BTW, your JPEG file has the following embedded information:

Canon EOS 50D
Firmware Version 1.0.7
EF50mm f/2.5 Compact Macro
