Hi guys really need some help (again). this morning the USB 2.0 connector off my WD 2TB My Book Exturnal HD (WD20EARS) snapped off the "USB to SATA interface PCB".

Very pissed, i couldnt re-solder the USB connector back on because the copper links on the PCB came off, and ive got nothing to solder to. ive done heaps of looking around for this particular USB to SATA interface PCB: model no 4060-705059-001 REV, but no-one sells them,i dont think WD sell them as a separate item.

i had another WD HD just curious that i might be able to use the PCB out of it, for mine. This HD was USB 3.0 to 2.0 (my original was 2.0 to 2.0) the PCB connected fine but a prompt screen appeared and ask my to format my HD because i entered my password to many times. In the past ive had this screen come up to me before, when ive forgotton my password and left it for 24 Hrs turned off and unplugged and the screen went away. so theres a chance that might work.

but if i buy an identical WD HD 2.0 - 2.0 and remove that USB to SATA interface PCB and put it in mine will it work? i hope so becuase i need my files. or should i some how find another over the internet (chances are slim) i dont no what to do

it should work if you find an identical board and move the adaptive data from your broken pcb to the new pcb. it's either in an 8 pin chip or it would be in one of the larger chips. If you scan or take a picture of the board's component side, one of the more experienced members on this forum could tell you which one.

If you buy another exact one the USB-to SATA adatper in the enclosure "Should " work. You will know if it does not because you will get the same format message since the drive did not decrypted.



Dave he is talking about the usb controller and not the PCB on the drive. The drive does not seem to be the issue

You may be able to resolder the connector using fine wirewrap wire. Let me know if you need some.
