Hi,

If you have the knowledge to do it, you can find a new compatible PCB and swap ROM.

My first attempt was to buy another disc with the same specifications and exchange pcb, but obviously did not work was recognized by the bios and did not sound even if you spinning, now that computing is not as it was 10 years ago, and the solution to the problems and is not simple, and not enough to change the pcb but you have to do other extra things.

The probe pcb is not even exactly the same model, one ends in 007 and the other in 003 I thought it would be compatible, hahaha

I found this card: http://www.hddzone.com/wd-2060701640007 ... p-281.html, I think, I could get someone to do the swap of bios locally, but I wonder if I have hopes it will work or if I should find an alternative more expensive to recover the data.

I understand that if the drive sounds and then spins is not solved by removing the diodes D3 and D4, D4 because it gives me weird readings but I think it's because my tester is not very accurate

Thanks dmarques and einstein9 for your responses.

I used google translator to help me with this text I hope you understand :D :?:

FYI, the "ROM" is the 8-pin serial flash memory chip at location U12 near the Marvell MCU (big "M"). You will need to transfer this IC from patient to donor. This chip stores unique, drive specific "adaptive" information. Some board suppliers include a firmware transfer or ROM transfer service for US$10 - $20. Otherwise, if you are not adept at soldering, your local TV/AV repair shop should be able to do it for you.

You may be wasting your time and money, though ...
