Hi,

We have been trying to remove bad sectors from the IDE hdd, We used various utilities given by the manufacturers but no use. Recently we downloaded Mhdd 2.9, when we scan the drive it shows "x" sign at 5 places but is not able to relocate these bad sectors.

Can anybody suggest any other software by which we can remove the bad sectors.

Hi, try the ATA command for your hard disk, and try to pick-up the G-List and then try transfer the bad blocks on it to the P-List, so here we are, if you can do this you arfe gonna be able to fix the hard disk. For an IDE hard disk this can be enought.
One thing that could help - maybe you can let us know a little bit more about the hard disk, small an without importance like manufactor, model size Hda, things like that.
best regards
Jose Pinto

You can reallocate bad blocks only by the special utility. If you've only 5 BBs (as you wrote), it's not very poor. The very easy case if you can backup your data on the different drive and after run the write test. This test write on the entire area of HDD the signature "000" and recovers all soft bad blocks. If you have physical bads, you can only reassign it by command 50h

Probably bad translator. The translator must be rebuilded with reading of P-List and G-list and probably you can get and user data

Another problem may be incompatibility between ROM firmware version and service module version.

And many other causes....

If Bbs are only in 5 pieces count, it is not translator, but only bads. Only specific software can make this HDD to good easily, enough you will try use Standard Commands of ATA interface, but it is very slow and hemorrous
