Hi, I have an Maxtor Drive with pictures on it,
and it makes this click sound, well, more like a floppy drive when it was stuck, probally the platers I guess? I have not much experience with this, all I know
that the data has to be recovered, and I am quite handy with computers, I heard the hammer was the best trick you could do... but where to hit it...
IF this is the best sollution, + I would like some advice... if possible...

And sending it to an data recovery company is the last option yes

Don't hit the hard drive with a hammer ! Where the heck did you learn that from ? If you want the data you are most likely 98% going to have to send it off for data recovery. If you hit it with a hammer then forget about recovering your data. You don't even provide the drive model number or anything that would give us a hint to which drive you have besides its a Maxtor. Sometimes its best to realize when you are in over your head and take caution. Does the drive spin ? can you feel or hear it spin up ? then you hear the clicking noise ? provide better information and put the hammer back in the darn toolbox before I call you names.

I don't see a place for DIY if data is critical

This drives are notorious for platter damage, but might as well get a sound...

Not all drives have a DIY Path! You can remove the controller from the drive and clean the contacts. The drive either has problems with the internal software that runs the drive which some is on the rom chip and some is on track0 the system area (SA) or one or more of the heads have failed (bad) and not able to read. That is why the drive is "clicking" also known as the click of death. More often its the heads. That is not a DIY repair. You can spend the $$ to buy a donor drive and try swapping the board but that may be in vain. Put the hammer away else hit yourself with it then see if the drive stops clicking.

Don't expect this to work...

I should see the drive to make a 100% sure diagnose, BUT from my experience on this model , this is 60-80% heads problem, the rest can be internal/SA/OTHER. Can also be media damage but this need to be diagnosed with proper gear.
If there is no or even moderate media damage , there are good chances for successful recovery - for US not for you.
Anyway, it's not a DIY job as special equipment is necessary for diagnose and eventual intervention.

You can always trust internet bullshit and try everything you read and see, but then, PLEASE, refer to the authors of the videos or articles, email them if you can and get any help exclusively from them ... if you can.
Don't see anything else.
