MHDD FAQs:

Quote:
Q: Does MHDD Scan+remap kill my data?
A: Remapping with MHDD is safe to your data as long as you have not too much bad blocks (under 100).

From MHDD manual:

Quote:
The most important thing is the raw value of «Reallocated Sectors Count» attribute, which says how many remaps are on the drive. Normally, you should always have zero there. If it is more than 50 — you have a problem. That means you have bad power supply, vibration, overheating or just broken hard disk drive.

These two quotes are confusing and I was hoping someone could clarify. According to the MHDD manual it seems that if your drive has 50 or more reallocated sectors as determined by the raw value, then, after checking for a heat problem, vibration, or power problem, then you can declare the drive bad.

Yet on the other hand, from the FAQs, it is safe to do remaps (and continue using the drive) if the drive has less than 100 bad blocks, each block being 255 sectors,FAR MORE THAN 50 bad sectors ? If I cam getting this right then even one bad "block" (255 sectors) would mean that the drive is bad because that is far more than the 50 reallocated sectors count indicated by MHDD manual.

Am I interpreting these quotes correctly ? Ultimately my question is, How many bad "blocks" can be detected before declaring a hard drive bad or unusable ? It seems like one quote is saying, "Your drive shouldn't be used if you have 50 or more reallocated sectors"...and the other quote is saying, "it's OK to have more than 50 reallocated sectors (Under 100 bad blocks is certainly MORE than 50 bad sectors).
