We have a computer store and occasionally we get drives in for data recovery where the customer doesn't want the data recovered unless its within a few hundred at most. This pretty much rules out defective head / platter jobs. We are looking for someone that does PCB repair only, i.e. swap out defective resistor, flash / move rom chip. If interested, our email is stratitek@gmail.com. I prefer someone on the West Coast to minimize shipping time.

I am also looking for a PCB for a WD3200AAKS-00L9A0, 19 Apr 2009, DCM HARNNT2AGN. On the board I have the R67 may be bad as it doesn't register anything for the ohms, so may be just need that chip replaced.

Actually the R67 chip does register .02 ohms. For the drive above it shows U12 on the board but no chip so am assuming the firmware is written on the drive platters, is this correct?

The problem is : how much are you willing to pay a PCB repair taxes paid ... Personally I can't give away 1 hour of my UNIQUE life for less than a certain amount... but on other countries they do (OK, we'll talk about shipping costs another time ). I think you may better outsource the entire process having first determined that there is no physical problem / requirement for clean room rework. But if you have such low spending customers , forget adding up usual regular markup on the price you get from outsourcer. This may also be a big limit.

You haven't said why you want to replace the PCB (and I'm not offering to do remote diagnosis), but FYI, that value for R67 is normal so on its own, that isn't a reason to replace the PCB.

You can find US based board suppliers who will include a "ROM" transfer service for US$10, including free shipping to the US.

Replacing R67 is something that your local TV/AV repair shop can do. But realistically, it's the sort of thing that you should be able to do in a matter of minutes in-house. In fact, all you need to do is to flow a blob of solder over it. BTW, R67 is a zero-ohm resistor, not a chip.

I suggest you that strike up a relationship with your local TV repairer. Most of your board repair requirements appear trivial.
