When I tried to connect my HD, Windows can recognize but can't format, I also tried the HDDScan, but it can't finish the tests. And when i tried to connect on Linux system the fdisk -l can not find the HD.

Anyone have any tips?

This is the dmesg log:

Was the drive dropped or bumped around as in physical shock? Any strange noises coming from it, such as clicks or buzzes? Get you ear close and listen carefully for sounds.

No, I never dropped it and it isn't making any noise.

How can I test if it is HD or USB input that is the problem?

Try a different compatible cable OR if you do not care about voiding the warranty, then remove the HDD from the casing and post some good resolution pictures of it (with the interface and of the board itself on both sides) to get more guidance.

@thiago.fabre:

You may want to read this thread, about problems with this type of drive (often related to the USB connector). However, I didn't see anyone else supplying a dmesg output in that thread, for comparison with yours.

samsung-portable-500gb-dead-t14351.html

Your dmesg output might also be the result of USB connector problems, but I do not believe that your dmesg output can directly confirm or deny this.

[Edited to add: Beware of the risks of DIY repair attempts.]

Can you hear the drive spinning or vibrating while powering on? Or is it completely dead?
