Some months back I got some excellent advice when I burnt my HD out due to hooking it up without putting it through the converter or adapter first. I had every intention of going to Jay Car or an equivlant place to have my HD read to see if I hadnt damaged the interface (something liike that) and actually did call only to find out the guy was away even after Easter. So, I didnt get around to going....

Anyways, as my old PC is dead and I want to transfer certain data to my new PC and external HD, I found out a way to do it which does not involve the enclosure having to be taken apart nor the PC having to be booted up! Just by using this cable kit.

My question then is this:

Is there a way I can retrieve the data from the HD (like the old PC) without having to get a new enclosure or new adapter?

If so, what would I need in order to hook the old external HD up to a new HD or PC... as in cable? I do believe it would be an IDE as it is at least 3 to 5 years old and is a 3.5 rather than 2.5. Logitech.

This kit does have a SATA to IDE converter I think as well as an adapter (100 to 240) to power up drives in order to transfer data. However, it does specify PC to PC, so I am not sure if it can be used for an external HD to PC.

PS I did check out a new adapter for my Logitech here as was suggested, but didnt like the fact they had something like 60% or 70% reliability printed next to them. And I did find the right " + or -".

Well, was just wondering if there is a cable I can connect between the burned out external HD to a PC or other HD, like I can from a PC to PC with the kit I just ordered.

I don't quite understand what exactly you are trying to do in terms of what you're said, because of the terminology you used. But yes, there is a way to connect a HDD to a PC. A USB-IDE/SATA adapter is a USB device with an adapter that allows you to connect an IDE or IDE HDD to it, and when powered up the drive should show in your operating system if it is not faulty.
