I'm with PC Image on this one. I've done a couple of these already with success once I found out what had to be done, and you could definitely brick it or easily kill the heads if you aren't careful.

Yes, gtd4242 is correct.

Things can go wrong during this process and if you don't know how to undo what can happen, then you're in big trouble. Whether or not the procedure is absolutely necessary or correct it's the way it works for me and can cause the heads to get stuck on the platter which requires cleanroom work to correct, it did the first couple of times I tried it until I got the timing spot on.

Lepa71, you'll just have to trust us on this one. It's not a DIY solution.

Any decent pros near this guy anyone?

I am also one of the lucky owners of Seagate 7200.11 750 GB with Firmware issue: HP24 Firmware.

HP has a HP26 fix but it only works before the HDD locks up. Mine worked for about 9 months before it locked up and of course I didn't hear of the HP26 fix until after mine locked up.

Any new fixes anyone know of or is it still just the solder / telnet fix that I need pro for? If the latter, anyone know a good pro in the Ann Arbor / Detroit Michigan area?

Thanks!

There is data recovery places in Mid-West, but not in Ann Arbor, that I know of.

Hello, I would be grateful if pcimage or anyone else with that knowledge,
could PM me the special procedure mentioned to recover a HP-branded Seagate ST3500620AS with HP24 Firmware.

I succesfully recovered several Seagate/Maxtor drives following the "standard" procedure, so I would like to know which special steps are reqired for HP branded drives.

Thanks for your attention,
Daniele

willpower101,
Hey Willpower can you give me any advice on this subject?? I have firmware hp24 and can't seem to find any info to "spin up" the drive, it gets stuck just like the pic on the very first post on this thread, and YES it may be a tricky and not safe procedure BlackST but you are still not understanding the @#$% drive is dead!! There is no way to pay $1200 bucks to get the data off it so as off now trying to fix it is worth the risk, unless HMM you are saying doing the secret procedure that only special people know about and doing it wrong will stop my heart and I will die!! HMM I am willing to take that RISK!!

Pretty Please!

If you are getting quoted $1200 for a firmware issue, you are going to the wrong lab. That being said, you can get the same symptoms from a drive with bad heads...in which case, $1200 does seem like a fair price.

I want to know what difference there is between the standard procedure and the procedure for HP24 firmware.
I have a Seagate ST3500620AS with firmware HP24...already locked!!
I have read many guides but I only found out now that for HP24 is necessary to follow another procedure...
if someone could send me a PM would be great!!!

Thanks a lot.
