I'm looking to add SATA port access to a WD passport that has a damaged USB micro port. I was wondering if anyone knew what points on the PCB I need to tap into? I have seen photos of it done, just never any diagrams. I am limited in my knowledge of what SATA pins are what as well. I have attached a picture of the PCB. All the ports appear labeled E2 E7 etc. so any point in the right direction would be a great help.

Probably better to fix the USB port, if that is all that is wrong with your drive

I was going to hard wire/solder the usb cable onto the traces but the solder points are too small for my equipment.

yup my suggestion would also be repair the usb Port. all that sata Talk is kinda experimental in my opinion. also clean the corrosion while your at it, the PCB looks kinda brown.


Reflow your connections or Follow some Traces & Solder a USB cable to it.

Even if you do manage to solder a SATA connection to your drive, it won't do you any good. The USB controller encrypts the data, so you won't be able to access your data through the SATA connection.

Better to try and get the USB connection repaired as it's already been suggested.
