Hi
I have a WD1600AAJS which promptly died on me and contains some very important data. After many tests I reached the conclusion it's the controller that's causing the problem (Linux reports the signal stuck at the buffer unable to get through), the disk spins up just fine and does not make any noise or anything to make me suspicious of the disk it self. My BIOS can see it but any OS is unable to use it.

So, I spoke to a friend who owns a lab and he said if I get him a working PCB he can change them no problem. Soooo anyone got one or can point me in the direction to get one?

Thanks a lot in advance, any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

BTW I saw on some other threads that you guys ask for pics so I went ahead and uploaded some ,let me know if it helps in any way.

Well I couldn't tell you exactly since it was 3 of us who tried but basically I loaded Hiren's boot CD and tried every program on it to access it. I tried searching for partitions with EASEUS Partition Wizard, accessing it with Easy Recovery etc... When none of that worked I gave it to a friend who is a Linux developer and he said that according to what he saw it's the controller and not the disk itself. I then gave it to my friend who owns a computer lab and he said he couldn't confirm nor deny it, so I chose to believe my first friend and am now on the hunt for a new controller.

I simply MUST get something off this drive so I'll at least try this before giving up.

That's my best description of what happened so far...

You said the BIOS sees the drive, but the OS does not. Can you describe all you see in the BIOS in relation to the drive (model, capacity, etc.)? Or post a picture of it?

At the BIOS it looks like any other HDD... I can see model, size and anything I'm supposed to. I can't post a pic since the drive isn't near me at the moment.

If this is the wrong place I'm sorry, feel free to move the thread to the correct forum or I'll start a new one there. I started it here cause this is where my search brought me and this is where I found multiple other threads in this matter.
