Dear All,

My brother's company server's HDD "crashed" and the IT supports feedback with the following message.

when we did the initial diagnostic, we realised that the 3 harddisks are working fine, 1 harddisk minor bad sectors, this is just a very simple job, but the harddisks sequence was all mix up, it's not according to the marking on the harddisks, seems someone changed the disk sequence, and each harddisk data partition begining 293000 sectors being manually overwritten, it cause RAID 5 simulation failed, even the inode structure being manually overwritten, it cause file structure lost, the data may only be raw recovered.

I must unfortunately advise that despite our best efforts, the data are not recoverable due to RAID disk being manually destroyed and cause RAID 5 crash, harddisk sequence being mix up, each harddisk data partition begining 293000 sectors being manually overwritten, RAID 5 rebuild 76% and fail.

if you can accept partial raw recovery(means no file name no folder structure), those small file size data can still be recovered(less than 64kb).

As we know nuts about HDD recovery and need any kind soul to advise whether is the HDD recoverable? Please advise any best action and procedures to the problems.

THANKS IN ADVANCE..

I would get a second opinion.

Even if parts are 'manually overwritten' it is still possible to find the correct RAID configuration. I believe with a proper evaluation at a reputable firm you have a good chance of getting the data back.

I also agree with hddguy.
Of course they won't tell you the whole story, but by the way, what's the OS?
Are they working with images or on the actual drives?
What happened to the server?

Thanks for all the quick advise..

OS is MS Window. My brother not sure and I believe they worked on the actual drive. Actual situation was, before this Tech Guy access and comments, there was someone manipulated the HDDs and thats why he said "seems someone changed the disk sequence"... Does that means all data will be lost (in worst case) after drives sequences mixed up?? Or... is it just a corruption of File Allocation Table?

More helps please... Thanks.

Btw, don't think I can seek helps from Dr.Kiev as I'm from Singapore...

It depends. It might mean the data is lost, but of course a pro would have to check it to be totally sure.

Anyone that could check your job, didn't need to go to Singapore, it can be done remotely.
