Hi All,
I have the above hard drive.
I put it into a Netgear NAS box and it did not recognise it. ( worked fine before formatting )
I formatted the device and now it seems to be a paperweight.

I have tried to low level format it with HDDGURU foftware and get the followign error

Current date and time: 14/10/2011 12:01:09 p.m.
HDD Low Level Format Tool 4.12; http://hddguru.com
Device details for [0] ST310005 28AS CC36 [1000.2 GB]

Details are unavailable: Internal error.
Please post this problem on http://forum.hddguru.com

I have updated to new firmware from here
http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/s ... cId=213891

I have tried ubantu, it can not see the drive.
If I use XP or 7 I can see the drive but it needs to be initialized, when i try to do that it says there is an IO error

I have tried the seagate seatools for windows and it can not see it, seatools for dos sees it but can do nothing with it.

Several tools cam back and say the HDD is locked.

There is no data I want to keep, I just want the HDD to use in my media center.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

John

John,

Check warranty on that drive and simply RMA it if warranty is still valid.

Best option would be to throw it at Bryce Lawrence's head.

Thats not very nice :-(

I didnt see all the game, however remember that a game of rugby has 30 players and several thousand referees.
