I do have a Western Digital WD800BB-08JHC0 which unluckily broke down due to burnt PCB. Fortunately I found same model WD hard disk, transferred the PCB donor to other one, yet no success. Details below.

Good HD/PCB #1
Model: Western Digital WD800BB-08JHC0
Date: 03 JUN 2005
DCM: HSBHNTJCH

sets of numbers printed on the IDE Insert of the PCB:
2061 - 701292 - 000 AK XS 2D35R6MN 4 0005470 5475

Damaged HD/PCB #2
Model: Western Digital WD800BB-08JHC0
Date: 03 JUN 2005
DCM: HSBHNTJCH

sets of numbers printed on the IDE Insert of the PCB:
2061 - 701292 - 000 AK XS 2D35RL2P 3 0006480 5486

Based from what I read online, it is important to have an exact model/serial of the donor pcb be matched to the other one in order to be successful in replacing the PCB and eventually will fix the problem. But in my case, it turned the other way. Any help will be much appreciated. I will post pictures of the two hardisk soon, i can't borrow a high def camera right now.

I really need to recover my important files that is why I landed here. Great forum for help seekers like me.

As what I have read, just need to swap the "u12" from bad hd to good hd.

Hoping I am getting it right. Looking forward for the positive result.

The U12 rom is unique to that drive.

Thanks for the replies. I'll inform you soon the result.

Need to contact a technician friend in order to do the process of swapping, I have no knowledge in soldering/hot air on pcb's.

Guys, let me know if the swapping of the U12 will fix the problem, just to be sure.

Like what I have first said in the thread, I swapped the two pcb and the result is just a noise on the HD, did not detect on the computer.

What if it won't work, any other method, I can DIY to fix the problem. Hoping to hear from you guys.

You have already been informed that swapping U12 is the next step why ask again ? If the new board and swapping U12 does not work you have no DIY steps left. Its possible the heads or pre-amp was blown when the chip shorted out no guarantee's so get someone to swap the U12 chip and give it a try.

UPDATE:

Swapping of "U12" is unsuccessful. Computer can't detect, just hear several clicks in the hd everytime computer attempt to detect it again and again. I am hopeless now to recover my files. Any other method guys?...

What caused the clicking? Is it broken inside? Was it caused by merely swapping the pcb's before, "U12" has not been swapped then?

Mabuhay, Eiloh.

The burned parts in your photo usually mean bad preamp -- that is why the drive is clicking.

This is not a D.I.Y. recovery and is difficult for many pro firms.

99.5% preamp as Jon says.
0.5% your new board makes preamp mimics due to marvel chip.

Yes no DIY possible at this point.
I'm not sure if there is a pro company from Philippines in this forum, but if you don't mind sending drive to a different country, my vote goes to jono-ats (USA).
